Real Ring Tones for Cell Phones
Those of you who know me know that I absolutely detest musical ring tones. In my mind, a phone, well, should ring like a phone! A singularly revolutionary concept, I know. I am always on the lookout for good ring tones, and in the last 10 years, I have found maybe four or five that both qualify and are recorded well. And those midi or polyphonic ring tones that are basically musical but are played in a way to imitate a standard electronic ring tone do not count.
One of my favorite rings of all time is the ring of a Lucent phone. These phone systems are designed for businesses and have a very characteristic ring. I once captured it onto a computer by putting a microphone up to the phone and making it ring. Well, imagine my surprise when I found out that Jack Bauer from the television show 24 has a phone that rings just like a Lucent phone. There are eight different ways these phones can ring, but there are two I especially like, one of which is the way Jack’s phone rings. As a result, I thought I’d post them here for everyone to enjoy.
The files themselves have no silence added to the end; if your phone is remotely intelligent, it will automatically wait a few seconds before playing the ring tone over when your phone is ringing. However, if your phone is not this smart and plays the tone over and over with no gap, I am also posting Jack Bauer’s ring tone with silence added. I hope all of you enjoy these as much as I do.

I once made something like this with a square wave generator, not too difficult to do. Thanks for sharing this. I think I’ll add it to my phone, along with all the old bell ringers I’ve got on there.
